MSc Nursing and MSc Health Studies (named awards)

For ambitious and enquiring health and social care professionals wishing to undertake specialist studies, a range of MSc Named Awards are available. These awards are designed to be flexible and tailored to each student's individual needs. Depending on your professional background, you can enrol on the MSc Nursing (registered or licensed nurses only) or MSc Health Studies on their own or with a named awards. In order to achieve the MSc you will undertake four modules, plus a practice-focused evidence-synthesis dissertation. If you would like a named award, you must include certain modules focusing on the chosen speciality, a research core and a professional core. A number of the awards have particular entry requirements (for example some modules are only available to local students). Each named award has a designated academic lead who will offer support throughout your programme and it is advisable to contact the relevant Programme Lead prior to submitting an application to ensure you are applying for the right award.

The dissertation must be on a topic relevant to the named award and may be a practice development project, or a systematic review (evidence-synthesis).  In a small number of cases it might be possible to undertake a research project. The choice of dissertation is negotiated between the student, academic lead responsible for the named award and the dissertation co-ordinators.

It is possible to complete a generic award of MSc Nursing or MSc Health Studies or to enrol on one of the following named awards:

Details of each of these pathways are available on their individual pages. Each named award is also available at Postgraduate Certificate (two modules) and Postgraduate Diploma (four modules) level.
