Biography

Dr Haggi is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant with the Mother and Infant Research Unit at the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, University of Dundee. He received his Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSci) degree in 2013 from the University of Nottingham; his doctoral research explored health experiences of Eritrean refugee families in the UK. Haggi also has MSc and BSc degrees in Child Health Nursing and Public Health and Clinical Sciences from the State University of New York at Stony Brook (USA) and the University of Asmara (Eritrea) respectively.

Prior to his doctoral study in the UK, from 2006-2008, Haggi worked as a lecturer at the College of Health Sciences (Orotta University of Health Sciences) in Eritrea where he taught Paediatric Nursing course (theory and practical) for undergraduate students. He has also worked as a Public Health Officer and Paediatric Nurse Practitioner at Orotta Paediatric Referral Hospital in Eritrea for about five years between 2003 and 2008 in both full-time and part-time posts.   

Haggi’s teaching and research interests include: mother and infant health, child health, health inequalities including health of refugees, health services research, quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and systematic and realist reviews.
